Alternative Names[edit | edit source]
- Sulawesi Snail, Rabbit Snail
Origin[edit | edit source]
- These new species of snails have recently been discovered in Sulawesi, Indonesia. There are many different colours and species, and are just making their début into America.
Sexing[edit | edit source]
- Unknown, but they are NOT hermaphrodites.
Breeding[edit | edit source]
- Lays 1 egg, amount of babies produced has not yet been recorded.
Tank compatibility[edit | edit source]
- A very peaceful snail despite its size. Will not harm any fish, or inverts. Do not keep with aggressive fish that may attack or eat the snail like Loaches. They have been known to eat some plants and mosses.
Diet[edit | edit source]
- Eats algae, left over fish food, par-boiled vegetables and fruit. Will not generally eat plants. Will mostly stay on substrate and glass since its too heavy for leaves to support its weight.
Feeding regime[edit | edit source]
- Only supplement food if necessary.
Environment Specifics[edit | edit source]
- Must have high water temperature of around 25.6-26.7°C (78-80°F) and a pH greater than 7.0, since those are the water conditions in Sulawesi. Do not keep in very soft water as the lack of calcium will cause the shell to corrode.
Behaviour[edit | edit source]
- Very peaceful snail towards others of its own kind and fish and other inverts.
Identification[edit | edit source]
- The shell is conical (cornucopia) in shape and heavily ridged, it has been found in a variety of colours. It is a fairly large snail with the shell reaching around 5.1-7.6cm (2-3")
